Who is a Scribe?

Simply put, a 'SCRIBE' is person who writes documents. Learned men who held positions in the various ancient cultures and bureaucracies were commonly referred to as Scribes in the olden days.

The ancient cultures especially the ancient Sumerian, Hebrew, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Indian Vedic and South American cultures knew full well that writing was the mainstay of civilized life and made earnest efforts and contributed immensely to the art of writing. In the ancient times, a Scribe was a privileged person, who was revered, respected and honoured, for the cultures had recognized and realised that writing was the foundation of an ordered and civilized life and government, and to some extent, transcended death itself. For now - ideas, discoveries, wisdom and experience need no longer die with the individual, but could be transmitted through endless generations, right down to us, indeed, as we read the fine literature, the religious and scientific texts of these early Scribes.

Most of what is known today about all ancient cultures is due to the work of Scribes. Monumental buildings were erected under their supervision, administrative, judicial and economic activities were documented by them, and tales from the mouths of ancient people today survive and are published widely, thanks to the Scribes putting them down in writing. The ancient language was written by Scribes who, from a very young age, went through a long apprenticeship before they mastered the skill of writing.

The knowledge of writing was essential for anyone who aspired to have leadership, administrative or legal careers. The work of ancient Scribes involved writing books, including sacred texts, or secretarial and administrative duties such as accounting, and the keeping of business, judicial and historical records for kings, nobility, temples and cities. Later the profession developed into public servants, journalists, accountants, typists, and lawyers.

Lawyers - Scribes

What we do at Law Scribes is quite akin (if not 'an apple to apple' comparison) to what the ancient Scribes did. Law Scribes is a law firm with particular concentration and focus in helping our Clients in documenting their commercial transactions. What we at Law Scribes in effect do is, create documents as per our Clients' requirements, which was exactly the function of the ancient Scribes. Only the tools and the language have changed over the vast period of time but the objective and aspiration remains.

We at Law Scribes aspire and strive to create legal documents and contracts using a specialised skill and significant efforts and expertise, as are reminiscent of the functions of the ancient Scribes. Our mainstream focus area is to capture within the ambit of a written document, the transaction being entered into between two or more parties.

Very similar to the ancient Scribes, the Solicitors today go through a long apprenticeship before they master the skill of legal writing and documentation. Thus we call ourselves "Law Scribes".
